GEEK is a place for families and friends to Meet, Make and Play. There are digital and analogue activities for casual and dedicated gamers. GEEK invites you back for fun and games in the winter months. People have traveled across the country and even across the ocean to attend GEEK.
GEEK has something for everyone, whether they want to play and compete, relax and try out something new, learn new skills or get an idea of their dream job using games and technology.
The heart of GEEK is a celebration of video games. There are hundreds of playable video games to play on hundreds of consoles. Visitors can trace their development from 1970s to current day or just find long lost favourites. Other activities include all new board games, cards, interactive theatre, performance and real life social games. Cosplay has grown in popularity since it was introduced at GEEK 2013. The talent is amazing and is definitely not ignored alongside all the screens and technology.
GEEK is a festival of games and play, it has been developed by Marine Studios director Kate Kneale working with her (gamer) son Tom and a team of amazing helpers and supporters. First launched in February 2012 GEEK is held annually in Margate, Kent. Why Margate? People have been coming to this small seaside town to play for over 250 years. GEEK invites them back.
Bigger and better each year GEEK is a huge celebration of games and play. Whether its Mario or Minecraft you will find it at GEEK. There are hundreds of games of games to play and a full programme of talks and workshops. And its not all about computer games knitting, coding, science, drawing, custard, storytelling, music composition, zombie makeup, poetry and much much more have all been part of GEEK.

'Great ideas like GEEK really join up the dots for most of us involved in culture, regeneration and education.'
- Jon Pratty, Arts Council England
We had a fantastic time at GEEK. It was amazing how smoothly everything seemed to run, which probably means a hell of a lot of love and care went into the organisation of the event... I think we mentioned before how it felt like the best expo we’ve been to, and it definitely was. Everything just seemed to gel so well and I think all the evening events going on alongside it gave the whole thing such a friendly community vibe, something other events just don’t seem to be able to compete with.'
